All the bears here werte identified & confirmed by TR . I'll post the best pics of each bear in it's own little section. & if there happens to be another good pic later of said bear by somelse after this thread is finished, I'll copy & paste the pic into that name section. Just post it in the Cam thread or in the 2011 bear section Part 1 to whatever # it's in, in the Wildlife study

I only put in bears that were diffinately ID. If you think there is a bear that shsould be inn here post in the cam threead & state what day it was in

SCAR- name for the long jagged scar on his nose, he also has a pink lip on hie righ side, probably form the same fight that earned him the scar. He has an extremely dark muzzle.

We watched Big Ben breed Dark Nose twice last year, and someone got it on video, which is on You Tube I believe. She should have his cub this year, provided she got enough to eat to sustain the embryo in her womb during the early winter, and provide enough milk for the cub during the late winter and early spring. Hopefully she and her cub will show up before long.

If you look at Big Ben, you will note that he appears to have had a heavier/longer coat than most of the other bears last year, whether or not he has it this year, is unknown - yet.

Here are some of my (revised) notes from last year.

    1. Big Ben Boar; Big, Heavy, thick coated, medium colored muzzle, possibly a short rounded beard. 2009

    2. DM Unknow Boar, probably Scar; Big, Heavy, short coated, dark muzzle, long scar on nose 2010

    3. LF Whiskers Boar, probably Whiskers: Big, heavy, short coated, light muzzle 2090

    4. Unverified Boar DM, probably Big Ben; short coated, light muzzle, dark crosswise stripe half way down the top of the nose. 2010

5.Unknown Young Bear LF, probably Little Whiskers; Medium heavy, short coated, light muzzle, dark down the top of the nose. 2010

    6. Brownie; Boar, juvenile, probably 3.5 year old, brown coat. Infrequently seen, probably exploring the edges of his home range, looking for possible food sources and mates for 2011  (spring).

So, we had 5 boars last year (in order of Age/Size) Big Ben, Scar, Whiskers, Brownie, Little  Whiskers.

Here are my notes on the sows and cubs we had in 2009.

    2) DM=July 10/09 sow=twins

    3) FR= July1/09 sow=Triplets

    4) HP=May 15/09 sow=2 brown twins

    5) US=June 23/09 sow=triplets

So - we had  5 sows and 10 cubs born in 2009.  One of them was dark nose, the other was Big Nose Sally (who was a notorious early 1900's hooker).

Here is photo of Brownie, who should be a 4 or 5 year old Boar by now, who we may see very infrequently.

As I compare Whiskers with Big Ben, Whiskers appears to quite a bit heavier this year, he may be a real bruiser this fall, and he is stil grwoing. Remember, many of these bears wil be bigger this year than last, because most of them are still growing.

Thanks Eiguoc ... we are indebtied to you - as always you are willing to work very hard for this site, and my research.

    God bless.

TR, the pic you have labeled as Whiskers mating here (2nd pic up from last) , is actually Big Ben, taken  at Hidden  Pond, which appears on the YouTube video. You have gotten the 2 bears mixed up. Will you relabel the pic please?

TR...If you go back to the May 27th Blog, 2009, it tells all about the video Malvin put up of Big Ben and the female bear mating...not Big Whiskers. The pic you have labeled above as Whiskers is Big Ben.

Her is the bear Misty got aphotof on May 9 in the AM.
He has a noticeable white spot on his left upper jaw and lip, anddoes not appear to have a ruff under his jaw. It looks like a boar but it is hard to tell.

If we look at the NEW bear, and the triplets above, they apear to have similar white markings on their snout.

Misty says he had a large clump of a beard/ruff under his jaw, he has a light colored nose. This description sounds a lot like Big Ben.

This is a photo of the above bear, taken during the day.I'm not seeing a large clump of a ruff. So, it is not Whiskers (unless he shaved). But, he has a dark muzzle and a possible light colored scar just behind the right side of his nose.

I noted that his backside was at least twice as wide as the width of the feeder trough-he is a bruiser.

Big Whiskers-and I do mean BIG

Note the fairly dark snout, and the prominent rounded ruff, behind his jaw, and behind the light colored part of his snout.

Blaze - one of Ms  Cinnamon's cubs.  It has a white V on it's chest that is very noticable.   We have not discovered it's sex yet, but the other cub does not have the white.  The other cub is a male.  Note Blaze has white spots at it's eyebrows like the Mom.   Also, this is usually the cub that is last to leave.
